![]() What complicates this is that in Bhutan, where I was far more buried under various forms of Padmasambhava worship, he is referred to by the name Guru Rinpoche ( gu ru rin po che). The figure found in one form or or another across Tibet and the Himalayas is historically known by his Indian name Padmasambhava, literally “lotus from born.” In Tibet, he is referred to by a direct translation of this title, Pema Jungne ( pad+ma ‘byung nas). Nomenclature is a bit tricky here for a number of reasons.
